Staff Members Celebrate Service Anniversaries

Guozheng Zhang, Ph.D., Research Chemist in the Inhalation Toxicology Division, in August 2005 marked five years of service with IITRI. Dr. Zhang is responsible for the validation of new and existing chemical analysis methods. Duties include operation and maintenance of state-of-the-art chemical instrumentation, documentation of quality controls measures, execution of high-volume laboratory tests, and technical review of smoke chemistry study data to ensure quality and compliance with Good Laboratory Practice guidelines.

Dr. Zhang is a member of the American Chemical Society and the Association of Chinese Scientists and Engineers - USA, and is the author or co-author of 13 articles and seven published abstracts.

Mica A. Mitchell, B.S., Laboratory Biologist II in the Microbiology and Molecular Biology (MMB) Division, in July 2005 marked five years of service with IITRI. Ms. Mitchell's primary focus is on performing micronucleus assays. She also assists in the validation of new cytogentic assays, and provides support in the performance of Ames assays. She is a member of the Midwest Regional Chapter of the Society of Toxicology.

Ryan Hrejsa, B.S., Laboratory Biologist I in the MMB division, in July 2005 marked five years of service with IITRI. Mr. Hrejsa is responsible for handling infectious agents, bacteria culturing, media preparation, ELISA, protein assay, serological testing, lavages, animal care and animal dosing. He is a member of the Midwest Regional Chapter of the Society of Toxicology.

Staff Member Promoted to Associate Chemist

Cody Jerden in August 2005 was promoted to Associate Chemist in IITRI's Analytical Chemistry (AC) group. Ms. Jerden started with IITRI in July 2003 as an Assistant Chemist with AC in the Toxicology Division. She has a B.A. in Chemistry from DePauw University, Greencastle, IN, and five years of experience.

IITRI's Staff Continues to Grow

The following administrative and scientific professionals joined the IITRI staff in the spring and summer of 2005:

Barbara Martin, Senior Administrative Assistant: With more than 25 years of experience, Ms. Martin provides administrative support to the Carcinogenesis and Chemoprevention (CC) Division and to the Operations Management office.

Edwin Quintanilla, Experimentalist, Analytical Services, Inhalation Toxicology (INH) Division: He has four years of chemistry experience and is completing a B.S. in Chemistry from Northeastern Illinois University, Chicago, IL.

William Sabato, Associate Chemist, INH Division: Mr. Sabato has over 10 years of experience and a B.S. in Chemistry from Joseph's University, Philadelphia, PA.

Sarah O'Brien, Associate Chemist, Analytical Services, INH division: Ms. O'Brien has 10 years of experience and a M.S. in Analytical Chemistry from Governors State University, University Park, IL.

Linas Sutkus, Research Engineer: Mr. Sutkus provides desktop support assistance for the Information Technology group and will assist the Quality Assurance Unit with software validation. He has a M.S.E.E. in Digital Communications from Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), Chicago, IL.
