TRI Wins Contract to Operate CRT Facility

Technology Research, Inc. (TRI), a new for-profit entity that is wholly owned by IITRI, was recently awarded a five-year contract to operate the vivarium at the Center for Research Technology (CRT), located in the Virginia BioTechnology Research Park in Richmond, VA. When fully staffed, it is expected that TRI will employ approximately 75 people at the Richmond site.

IITRI has established Technology Research, Inc. (TRI) as a wholly-owned subsidiary.

Housed in a state-of-the-art facility, the CRT vivarium includes eight inhalation laboratories, 20 animal rooms and extensive support facilities. Inhalation laboratories are equipped with both nose-only and whole-body inhalation exposure systems, and supporting laboratories provide the opportunity to study a wide range of disease processes using cutting edge technologies. Core research to be performed at the CRT will include mechanistic inhalation toxicology and particle science studies in rodent model systems.

TRI has initiated recruitment efforts, and has hired a number of top scientists in the fields of aerosol science and inhalation toxicology. After hiring, new TRI scientists will be trained by IITRI scientists in a dedicated inhalation toxicology training facility located in Chicago; after completion of training, scientific staff will begin research in the CRT in Richmond.

Narayanan Rajendran, Ph.D., President of TRI, will oversee operations at the facility. Dr. Rajendran has specialized in inhalation research for 25 years, and has managed a similar testing program for the past 10 years for this Sponsor.

"This is a very exciting step forward in the field of inhalation research at IITRI and TRI. Once the facilities at CRT are validated and routine operations are established, TRI will explore other opportunities in areas such as drug delivery, formulation development and medical device design. In the upcoming years, we anticipate great things and look forward to being the pioneers in these areas of study."
